Potential activities: beekeeping, handicrafts, cashew, Shrimp, Carnauba, Construction, Retail, Clothes, Grain, Sheep and Goat Farming and Tourism The tertiary sector accounts for almost 70% of the income formation of the state, even despite the unfavorable performance of one of its most important segments, the inter-regional trade, which has just transferring resources, via various mechanisms, especially tax, for more developed states of the federation, notably Sao Paulo. The primary and secondary sectors, although the minority in the formation of total income, absorb a significant portion of the labor force, distributed among the following activities: vegetable and mineral extraction, livestock and agriculture.

Representing only 0.54% of Brazilian GDP in 2006, the Gross Domestic Product of Piauí to R$ 12 billion, which resulted in a nominal range of 72% over 2002 and 15% based on 2004. In real terms, the change in the last two years for Piaui was 6.1%, higher than the Northeast (4.8%) and Brazil (4%).
Among the indicators of growth, cement consumption increased from 291 tons in 2002 to 386 thousand in 2007, ranging in percentage terms 32.65% on this change greater than that for Brazil and the Northeast. The same is noticed when we analyze the variation in the last two years.

The number of consumers of electricity in the State in 2001 was 630 thousand to 812 thousand spent in 2007, ranging from 28.83%, only between 2006 and 2007 this variation reached 5.18%. Residential consumers account for 86% of total trade and 8%. Among the classes of consumers, it was stressed that the country grew 35.66% between 2002 to 2007, leaving 18 thousand links to 25 thousand. The increase in energy supply and the incorporation of low-income consumers through the social program Light for All explain these variations.

The culture of upland cotton production was in 2007, of 26,913 tons, grown in an area of 10,323 hectares.

Integrated Development Polo- Uruçuí-Gurguéia
Located in the southern state of Piaui, is the most dynamic centers of Piauí Savanna, the municipalities Uruçuí and Bom Jesus.

The supply chain more relevant to the Pole is the grain complex. Besides soybeans, farmers from the South of the country operating in the region other crops such as rice and corn, and adopt modern technology-intensive mechanization, fertilizer and soil correction. Inoculants for nitrogen fixation, selected seeds, crop rotation, cultivation and practice of appropriate tillage.

The Polo has huge areas of grasslands with deep soils and plans available to be incorporated into productive areas. Besides the physical aspects there are also very favorable economics and the low price of land, the strengthening the chain of grains and the existence of the Bank as a funding body.

Apart from the huge areas of grasslands, the Polo also has areas on the river Gurguéia that can be exploited for irrigation. The water used for irrigation comes from underground water deposits in the area with water of excellent quality for this activity. The potential irrigable area is currently 3 hectares. There is also availability of mines and mills of limestone, the raw material of fundamental importance to the grassland agriculture.
Tourism Polo- Delta Coast The Coast Pole Delta encompasses five municipalities and has coastline on its 66 miles long and a single example that stands out from other regions, the Delta River, which has a highly diversified landscape, flora and fauna.

It is the only delta in the Americas in the open sea and third in the world, formed by five branches of the river that flow into the sea and that, in contrast to the dunes, form an archipelago dotted with 78 islands and islets, drawing on ecological tours their streams of closed vegetation and wetlands, with total area of 2,700 km ².
Other natural attractions worthy of mention are the Sobradinho and Lagoa do Portinho leisure and entertainment, with dunes, dense vegetation and a berth for water sports. Its beaches have odd landscape features beaches and still little explored, among which are: Pedra do Sal, Coqueiro,


Macapá, Barra Grande, Cajueiro’s beach and Atalaia, the latter being the most popular along the coast, by offering a range entertainment options and be well served with tourist facilities and services.

The total road network of the state is 56,805 kilometers across the entire state. There are links to the south of the country through the capital. Other highways provide access to North and Northeast regions in the east-west. In Piauí, railroads total 523 km long and connecting the capital to ports in the region and neighboring states. The main products transported are: iron ore, cement, petroleum products, leather, fertilizer, carnauba wax and food products. The State has two airports: one in Teresina and another in Parnaíba, both with asphalt surfaces, equipped to meet the landing and takeoff of large aircraft.
