The state has the highest per capita income in the Northeast and high levels of literacy. With a subsoil rich,
the state has large reserves of oil. One of its biggest attractions is the region Xingó, which includes the 5th largest canyon waterways in the world.
Data from Studies and Research Department of Planning Sergipe show that the state had a rate of GDP growth of 4.1% compared to 2005. Gross Domestic Product of Sergipe in 2006 was R $ 15.126 billion, putting the state in 21 th place in the Brazilian ranking.
Among the municipalities, deserves the capital Aracaju. With a GDP of just over $ 5 billion, represents 33% of state wealth (U.S. $ 15.1 billion) being the largest city of GDP in Sergipe. Second ranking appears in the municipality of Nossa Senhora do Socorro with the amount of R $ 1.84 billion, or approximately 12% of the state.
Sergipe is highlighted by the organization and quality of life. The capital Aracaju is a city designed and its edge has a good structure of services. Another highlight is the Mangue Seco, on the border with Bahia, with its small town and beautiful dunes that enchants visitors.
Integrated Development Polo South of Sergipe
The South Pole of Sergipe occupies an area of 8345.0 kilometers ², comprising the municipalities of Arauá, Boquim, Cristinápolis, Estância, Indiaroba, Itabaianinha, Itaporanga d'Ajuda, Lagarto, Pedrinhas, Riachão of Dantas, Salgado, Santa Luzia do Itanhi, Tomar do Geru and Umbaúba, and the municipalities of Itapicuru, Jandaíra and Rio Real, in Bahia. The municipality of Boquim is the main center of polarization in the region due to the large citrus production. It is far from Aracaju 69 km straight.
Polo is the first in the production of oranges in the Northeast and ranks second in national production. About 50% of fresh produce is exported to other states in the Northeast. The industrialized part is exported to the United States and Europe. Tourism Polo- Coast dos Coqueirais
Include 18 municipalities across the coastline, benefiting 931 thousand people, which correspond to the resident population. Tourism in the Polo Coconut trees is characterized as leisure and cultural events and business. It has beautiful beaches, offering sun and sea all year round, with tours of catamarans and dive options. The beaches are located on the pole: Artists, Hawaizinho, Atalaia, Aruana, Náufragos, Robalo, Refugio and Mosqueiro. Even in the cities of the coast, found the prevalence of eco-tourism and adventure, with options for fisheries.
Another natural attraction that stands at the Pole is the estuary of the rivers with its mangroves. Two federal highways cross the state: the BR-101 (north-south) and highway-235 (westbound).
